The Mines of Spain was selected as a Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Site. This designation says that MOS has a special story to tell about agriculture and its history as part of agricuture in the making of America. You may want to check out this site to discover what Silos and Smokestacks is about. There is a sign on Highway 20 when you come into Iowa from Illinois
